NWSCT April 2008 Newsletter
April 2008
What has the NWSCT done this past year, you ask? We have had a very busy and exciting year! One of our biggest accomplishments was putting a website together. This is up and running and we are encouraging everyone to visit the website (www.nwsct.org) for the most updated information on the NWSCT.

We started the year with Matt Weeks, from Chemdex; LLC, speaking on "Using the Internet to Effectively Source Paint and Coating Information."   Everyone found this topic to be informative and useful.

A few days later we hosted our annual Fall Golf Outing at The Links at Northfork. Thank you to Ron Chock for putting this event together. The weather was a little chilly but everyone had a nice time.

Mitch Halpert addressed our group during our December meeting.  He talked about "Kaolin Clay and other extenders."  This talk served as a good reminder that there are products out there that can help reduce the cost of coatings.

H.B. Fuller hosted our January luncheon meeting, which featured a talk by Dr. David P. Dumbleton of Atlas. This talk was titled "An Overview of Environmental Durability of Materials." A big thank you goes out to H.B. Fuller for hosting this meeting.

In February we held the annual Winter Outing at Cragun’s Resort. Thank you to Ron Chock for putting this together again. Everyone had a great time.

We had a regular meeting in March where the topic was "Do you really comply with ASTM?" by Joe Peter of Leneta Company

Several members attended the Spring Social "We Gotta Bingo." Everyone seemed to have a good time at this event. There was some participation and a few NWSCT members were good sports and became part of the performance. We want to thank all of our sponsors for making this a successful event including George C. Brandt, M.F. Cachat, Commerce Industrial Chemical, Hall Technologies, and RJA Dispersions.

The most recent event was the Education/Symposium on April 8th where we had very good attendance. A big thank you goes out to Kevin Evanson for putting together this very successful event.  We would also like to thank Dr. Stuart Croll of NDSU for organizing the students to come down for a couple of days. At this event, NWSCT presented a check to the Coatings and Polymeric Materials Group at North Dakota State University.

Now it's time to organize our calendars and get ready for the rest of our year before Summer. We are hosting a Poker Tournament on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Park Tavern in St. Louis Park.  Please visit the website for more information (http://www.nwsct.org/outings.php#tournament) or contact Jim Loeffler at (jwloeffler@mfcachat.com). We are limiting this event to 40 Poker players, so register early.

Our annual Spring Fling Golf Outing is scheduled for Thursday, June 12th at Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, MN. This event is posted on the website (http://www.nwsct.org/outings.php#springgolf08) under "Events." Please print off the form and mail it to Barb Holm at George C. Brandt. The Fall Golf Outing will be held on Wednesday, September 17th at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Stillwater, MN. This is a new venue for this event.
We hope that everyone has enjoyed our exciting, diverse year and hope you can join us next year. Thank you for being part of NWSCT.
