NWSCT Newsletter April 2009

Now that summer is fast approaching, we would like to take the opportunity to recap this busy past year of the NWSCT.

We started the year with Steve Thompson, from Lubrizol Advanced Materials, speaking on "Concrete Coatings to Meet Performance and VOC Demands."   Everyone found this topic to be informative and useful.

One day later we hosted our annual Fall Golf Outing at Stone Ridge Golf Club.  Thank you to Brian Mader and the golf committee for putting this event together.

Valspar hosted our November meeting where Josh Mathes of Southern Clay Products addressed our group. He talked about fundamental thickener design and application properties in his talk titled "Smart Rheology."

HB Fuller hosted our January luncheon meeting where the talk featured Paul Hoffman of Bayer MaterialScience, LLC.  This talk was titled " Polyaspartic Coatings: The Key to Higher Productivity and Lower VOCs."  A big thank you goes out to H.B. Fuller for hosting this meeting.

On January 23rd to 25th we held our annual Winter Outing.  This year it was held at Cragun's Resort.  We would like to thank all of the sponsors for the hospitality suite and the meals that were provided.  Even though the weather was very cold, everyone that attended had a fun time.  Thank you very much Ron Chock, Elaine Anderson, and Robin Norcutt for all of your hard work to put together this highly successful family fun event.

We held the Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament on February 27, 2009 at the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park.  Congratulations to Peggy Mittlesteadt for winning the tournament.  Full results from the tournament as well as pictures can be found here.  Thanks to Jim Loeffler and Elaine Anderson for organizing this fun event.

Our March meeting featured Andrew Balgeman of HALOX.  Andrew's topic was "SOL-GEL CORROSION INHIBITORS."  This talk gave us all valuable information about an environmentally friendly alternative to the use of heavy metals or Cr-based corrosion inhibitors.

Our April meeting was education night where the featured speaker was Xiaodong Shi, a student at North Dakota State University.  His topic was "Coating Service Lifetime Prediction."

Our most recent event was the Spring Social, "Tony n' Tina's Wedding."  Several NWSCT members and their guests attended this event and everyone seemed to have a good time.  We want to thank Elaine Anderson for organizing this event.

Our final event of the year will be the annual Spring Fling Golf Outing.  This is scheduled for June 4th at Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake.  This year the event will be held in the afternoon to better accommodate peoples' schedules.  Registration will open at 11:30 AM.  Information on this event can be found here http://www.nwsct.org/outings.php.

We hope that everyone has enjoyed our entertaining and educational year and hope you can join us next year. Thank you for being part of NWSCT and have a great summer!
