NWSCT December 2010 Newsletter

Our December meeting was held on the 14th at HB Fuller. 18 members were in attendence. Mike Watkins with Cypress Chemical Consulting, Inc gave an interesting presentation entitled "Fine Points of Epoxy Chemistry for the Formulator" (Or What you don't know can hurt you). Our January meeting will be a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 at Jax Cafe (1928 University Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN, Map It!). The cost of the meeting is $15 per person which includes a breakfast buffet. If you are interested in attending the meeting please register and pay via PayPal on the NWSCT website (Monthly Meeting Registration) by Friday, January 7th so that we can get an accurate head count. This upcoming talk will feature Dante Battocchi, Associate Director for the Center for Surface Protection at North Dakota State University. The title of his talk will be "Coatings and Corrosion at NDSU."

Dante received a doctorate degree in materials engineering from the University of Trento in Trento, Italy, and a master's degree in polymers and coatings from NDSU. He is the Associate Director of the NDSU Center for Surface Protection, a research center in which the university partners with private sector companies to do material research. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the NDSU Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials where he serves as technical manager in the durable hybrid coatings program. Battocchi's work includes development and optimization of magnesium-rich primers for chromate-free protection of aluminum alloys, as well as electrochemical analysis and characterization of protective coatings. His published work includes articles in journals such as Corrosion Science, Journal of Electrochemical Society, Progress in Organic Coatings and numerous conference proceedings. He previously served as an agent with the Italian State Police.
