December 2015 Newsletter

Our December monthly meeting was held at Multi-Clean in Shoreview and featured a presentation from Rebecca Ortiz of The Dow Chemical Company. She presented on isocyanate-free urethane technology. Thanks again to Multi-Clean for hosting us.

Our monthly meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of the month from October – April. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12th at Tennant’s Corporate Woods facility in Golden Valley. They are located at 1111 Douglas Drive, Golden Valley, MN 55422. The meeting will feature two speakers. Tony Hennessy from Elementis will discuss rheology modifiers for solventborne coatings. Richard Grenville of Philadelphia Mixers will discuss Mixing Issues for Paint Manufacturers. The meeting will start at 11:30 am and include lunch. We will wrap up by 1:30 pm.

The cost for the meeting is $15 for members and $20 for non-members if registration is made by Friday, January 8th ($20/$25 if registering later). Membership

Our Membership registration is wrapping up for the new year (September – August). You can follow the link to our membership page and fill out an application to join or renew. Individual Memberships are $25 per year and Corporate Memberships are available ($100 for 4-9 people; $200 for 10-19 people and $400 for 20-29 people). Members receive discounted rates for monthly meetings and have access to electronic copies of presentations provided to the NWSCT.

Passing

We are sad to announce the passing of two long time members of the local coatings industry.

Ray Baltaragis, who worked with Brandt Technologies, passed away on November 15th, at his home in Naperville, IL. He served in the Army National Guard for six years and worked for Brandt Technologies for over 20 years.

Bud Hirshfield, Chairman of the Board of Hirshfield’s, Inc. and founding father of “The HCC”, passed away on November 24th at age 84.

Friday, February 19th: Annual Texas Hold Em Tournament. Charity event for the NWSCT Scholarship program. No previous experience required.
Tuesday, March 8th: Monthly Meeting at BASF. Clariant will present.
Tuesday, April 19th: Annual Education Symposium at Valspar.
We will also host a Winter Outing in January.

Scholarship Program

We have launched a Scholarship program that will award individual scholarships to the son or daughter of an active member of the NWSCT in good standing. Applications are available at monthly meetings and on our website.
