NWSCT Newsletter March 2008
There was a very good turnout for the January meeting at H.B. Fuller. Thank you to H.B. Fuller for allowing us to host a meeting at their facility. About 30 people attended the presentation and lunch.
Dr. David Dumbleton of Atlas Material Testing Solutions, LLC spoke about "An Overview of Environmental Durability of Materials". This was a very informative talk, we learned a lot about the different types of accelerated testing and what the results mean to you.
Our next meeting will feature "Do you REALLY comply with ASTM?" by Joe Peters from the Leneta Company. Many labs claim they comply with ASTM and other standards. Based on extensive personal experience Joe has discovered there is frequently significant difference between what is actually done and what the method requires. Users fail to keep up to date on the changes in the methods; shortcuts are taken without awareness of their impact. Also discussed is how ASTM Methods are created and how YOU can get an ASTM Method changed, or a new method on the books. This should be a very valuable talk for us.
On February 15th to 17th we held our annual Winter Outing. This year it was held at Cragun’s Resort. There were 23 people in attendance. We would like to thank all of the sponsors for the Hospitality Suite and the Meals that were provided. The very generous sponsors were George C. Brandt Co., Commerce Industrial Chemical, M.F. Cachat, Hall Technologies, Brenntag and T.H. Hilson. I am sure everyone that attended had a wonderful time, as usual. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful work on this event Ron Chock, Elaine Anderson, and Robin Norcutt for putting together this family fun event.
Our Spring Social at the Lowery Theater can be viewed here: http://www.nwsct.org/outings.php. The date is set for Friday, April 18, 2008. The play we are going to see is "Song of Singapore" and we will be having dinner before hand, Actors Theater of Minnesota the cost is $45 per person. Reservations are required by March 28, 2008.
