NWSCT November 2012 Meeting Announcement

Our first meeting of the 2012-2013 NWSCT year will be held on Tuesday, November 13th from 11:30 - 1:30 at Cortec Corporation (4119 White Bear Parkway, White Bear Lake, MN) The cost of this meeting will be $15 per person if paid on our website using PayPal by Friday, November 9th and $20 if paid thereafter. Registration is easy, just follow the link to register and pay for the meeting (Monthly Meeting Registration). Please contact Wally Kesler (wkesler@valspar.com) if you plan to attend the meeting but will not be paying via PayPal so that we can get an accurate head count for lunch.

This month's talk will feature a discussion on "Rheological Additive Selection for Waterborne Systems" presented by Sel Avci with Elementis Specialties Inc. Rheology modifiers play an important role in defining the performance of waterborne paint & coating systems. In this presentation, the chemistry of most common rheology modifiers, thickening mechanisms and their use in various type of paint & coating systems will be discussed. The thickener types will include clays, acrylics and nonionic associative thickeners.

Sel Avci is currently employed by Elementis Specialties Inc. as a Marketing Manager, Industrial Coatings & Inks. He has over 25 years of experience in the area of coating and ink formulations and additives. Prior to joining Elementis Specialties in 1998, he held various technical positions at major ink and coatings corporations such as Sun Chemical and Engelhard Corporation. He received a B.S degree in Chemistry from Ramapo College of New Jersey in 1983 and holder of five US patents.
