NWSCT December Newsletter

The December meeting was held on Tuesday, December 11th at HB Fuller and featured a discussion on "HAZCOM 2012 - Implementing the GHS in the US, (now what do I have to do?)." Anita Boldt from HB Fuller presented information relating to GHS including the effects of impending changes in the classification, labeling and MSDS preparation for chemicals.

Our next meeting of the 2012-2013 NWSCT year will be held on January 8th, 2013 at Valspar Corp (Valspar's Bldg #2 Conference Room, 1028 South 3rd St, Minneapolis, MN 55415). This month's meeting will feature two presentations and also includes lunch. The cost will be $15 per person for members and $20 per person for non-members if paid on our website using PayPal by Friday, January 4th, and $20/$25 if paid thereafter. Registration is easy, just follow this link to register and pay for the meeting: Monthly Meeting Registration. Please contact Wally Kesler (wkesler@valspar.com) if you plan to attend the meeting but will not be paying via PayPal so that we can get an accurate head count for lunch.

The first talk will feature Rich Scott of Byk Gardner. Rich will present on the "Advancements in Hand-Held LED Color Measurement Technology." Advancements in the world of LED's are everywhere: our flashlights, homes and cars. Newer, better LED's are available with finer slices of the spectrum which allows for dramatic improvements in spectrophotometer technology. This presentation will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of LED's versus traditional instruments. Rich Scott holds a Bachelor's Degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in Business Administration and has been in the color business for 25 years. Rich is formerly in charge of Color Applications and was the National Quality Manager for Sherwin-Williams. Rich joined BYK-Gardner in 2005 and is the Director of Key Accounts.

The second presentation will be on "The Impact of Biocide Regulatory Changes on the U.S. Coatings Industry" presented by Michelle Rioux with Lonza/Arch. This presentation will review the biocide related trends in the US Coatings Industry, the status of formaldehyde donor chemistries and current and future biocide options for the industry. Michelle has worked with Olin/Arch/Lonza in the biocides businesses for 24 years. At present she is the Technical Service Manager for the Lonza North America Materials Protection Businesses.
